Criteria for Evaluating Technology

As part of a course at the University of Northern Iowa, prospective elementary teachers and I developed criteria to look at when evaluating technology resources. This is a work in progress that we can continue to add to!

Is it purposeful?

  • Does the program provide an opportunity to do something we could not do before? In what way(s)?

Is it user-friendly and appealing?

  • Is the program easy to use?
  • Does it do what I want it to?
  • Is the program appealing to students?

Is it appropriate?

  • Is the program appropriate for my students’ learning?
  • Which students will thrive in this environment?
  • How might I need to adapt this program for my students?

Is it mathematically accurate?

  • Is the program aligned to CCSS?
  • Does it promote mathematics positively?

How does it include fluency?

  • Does the program address all parts of fluency? (Accuracy, flexibility, efficiency)
  • In what areas would teachers need to supplement in order to address all three parts of fluency?
